This policy explains what information the NETRAM mobile application collects, why it's collected, and how it's protected while you register, submit geo-tagged field data, upload evidence, and monitor encroachment cases.
The NETRAM (Network for Encroachment Tracking and Reporting for Mumbai) portal and mobile application have been developed to enable technology-driven, rapid detection and removal of slum encroachments within the jurisdiction of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The platform is implemented by the Slum Rehabilitation Authority, Brihanmumbai, in collaboration with BISAG-N.
Satellite imagery of 30cm resolution for the years 2000, 2011, and 2025 has been analysed using periodic Change Detection methods, and details of identified encroachments are made available through the web portal and this mobile application to support field verification, monitoring, and administrative action.

To operate the encroachment tracking and reporting workflow, NETRAM collects the following categories of information:
GPS coordinates, survey notes, encroachment site details, and timestamps captured while conducting or verifying field inspections.
Photographs, scanned documents, and attachments uploaded as evidence during reporting, verification, or case-status updates.
Real-time or last-known device location, used to map field activity against satellite change-detection zones.
Device type, operating system, app version, and basic usage patterns collected for troubleshooting and service improvement.
Information collected through NETRAM is used strictly to support encroachment identification, verification, and administrative action, including to:
No Third-Party Advertising: NETRAM does not display third-party banner advertisements, and we have no intention of introducing them.
Data collected through the application, including registration details, geo-tagged submissions, and uploaded images or documents, is stored on secure servers with access restricted to authorised personnel. Reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards are applied to protect this information against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction.
While we take reasonable steps to protect your information, no method of electronic storage or transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
We retain registration information, field submissions, and case records for as long as necessary to support ongoing encroachment monitoring, case resolution, administrative review, and applicable legal or record-keeping requirements. Case data may be retained beyond resolution for historical reference and change-detection analysis in future survey cycles.
